how to crochet a rose bouquet (2 sizes with leaves) | free patterns & video tutorial


Hi everyone! These are the written patterns for my rose youtube tutorial. I recommend watching the video tutorial for the step-by-step demonstrations first and then crocheting more roses by referring to the patterns.

Abbreviations:

ss - slip stitch / sc - single crochet / hdc - half double crochet / dc - double crochet / tc - triple crochet

1. Small rose

Foundation chain - make a slip knot and chain 23

Row 1 - skip 3 chains, insert 3 dc into the 4th chain, 1 sc in the next chain, repeat these steps *skip 1 stitch, 3 dc in the same stitch, 1 sc in the next stitch*

Row 2 - chain 2 and turn your work, repeat these steps *1 dc, 2 dc in the same stitch, 1 dc, ss and chain 1*

Ss and chain 1 in the last stitch then fasten off

2. Small bud/sepal

Make a magic ring and chain 1

Round 1 - insert 5 sc, ss into the first stitch and chain 1

Round 2 - insert 2 sc in every stitch (total 10), ss into the first stitch and chain 1

Round 3 - insert 1 sc in every stitch (total 10), ss into the first stitch

Round 4 - repeat these steps 5 times *chain 5, skip the 1st chain, ss in the next 2 stitches, 1 sc, 1 hdc, skip 1 stitch and ss into the next one*

Chain 1 and fasten off to end your work

3. Medium rose

Foundation chain - make a slip knot and chain 47

Row 1 - skip the 1st chain, insert 1 hdc into every chain (total 46 stitches)

Row 2 - chain 5 and turn your work, 1 dc in the first stitch, repeat these steps *skip 2 stitches, 1 dc + chain 3 + 1 dc in the 3rd stitch*

Row 3 - chain 3 and turn your work, repeat these steps *insert 7 dc into the chain 3 space, insert 1 sc in the triangle space*, in the last chain 5 space *7 dc, 1 sc, ss*, chain 1 to fasten off and end your work

4. Medium bud/sepal

Make a magic ring and chain 2

Round 1 - insert 6 dc, ss into the first stitch

Round 2 - repeat these steps 5 times *chain 7, skip the 1st chain, 1 ss, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc in the next 2 stitches, 1 tc, ss into the next stitch*, chain 1 to fasten off and end your work

5. Leaves

Foundation chain - make a slip knot and chain 10, insert the thin wire through the back of the 10th chain and fold it in half on both sides

First side of the leaf - skip the 1st chain, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc in the next 5 stitches, 1 hdc, 3 sc in the same stitch (turn to the other side)

Second side of the leaf - 1 hdc, 1 dc in the next 5 stitches, 1 hdc, 1 sc, ss, chain 1 to fasten off and end your work

6. Assembling the roses

I recommend watching the demonstrations in the youtube tutorial first!

Step 1 - glue one side of the rose onto the stem, wrap the rose around itself by placing glue at the bottom edges

Step 2 - slide the leaf bud/sepal onto the stem, glue the middle of the leaves individually onto the bottom of the rose

Step 3 - wrap yarn around the stem, add the leaves while wrapping down the steam

Mix and match different sizes and colours to make DIY bouquets :)
