winter crochet accessories: cute earmuffs, granny square scarf, & leg warmers | free patterns + video tutorials

Hi everyone! These are the written patterns for my youtube tutorial. I recommend watching the demonstrations first and then following along with the written instructions. Happy crocheting!

Abbreviations:

ss - slip stitch / sc - single crochet / increase - 2 sc in the same stitch / hdc - half double crochet / dc - double crochet

1. Earmuffs

Step 1: sc around a headband

Step 2: crochet 4 circle pieces with the following pattern...

- Make a slip knot, chain 4, ss into the 1st chain to make a circle, then insert the stitches of round 1 into the circle formed between the chains

- Round 1: 8 sc

- Round 2: 2 sc in every stitch (total 16)

- Round 3: 1 sc, increase (total 24)

- Round 4: 2 sc, increase (total 32)

- Round 5: 3 sc, increase (total 40)

- Round 6: 1 sc in every stitch (total 40)

Step 3: place two circle pieces around the headband and sc through the stitches on both piece to join the sides together

2. Leg warmers

- Make foundation hdc until you have the length you want for the leg warmer

- Crochet rows of hdc until the piece can wrap comfortably around your leg

- Repeat these steps to start and make a new row: chain 1, turn your work, hdc into the back loop of every stitch

- Once your piece is wide enough, hdc into the side edge of your piece to make the top border

- Fold your piece in half, then ss through the stitches on both pieces to close the sides of the leg warmer

- Repeat this around the bottom edge of the piece to make a shell border: ss, skip a space, 5 dc in the same space, skip a space

- Ss and fasten off to end your work

3. Granny square

Crochet 24 squares (or more/less depending on the size you want) with the following pattern

Some abbreviations/steps to know before starting...

1 cluster = 3 dc

Insert in every chain 3 space = 1 cluster + chain 3 + 1 cluster

Insert in every chain 1 space = 1 cluster

- Make a magic ring

Round 1:

- Chain 3 (this counts as our 1st dc of round 1), 2 dc, chain 3

- Repeat 3 times: 1 cluster + chain 3

- Ss into the 3rd chain

Round 2:

- Chain 4

- Repeat 3 times: in the chain 3 space *cluster + chain 3 + cluster* / chain 1

- In the last chain 3 space: cluster + chain 3 + 2 dc

- Ss into the 3rd chain

Round 3:

- Chain 3 + 2 dc

- Repeat 3 times: in the chain 3 space *cluster + chain 3 + cluster* / chain 1 / 1 cluster in the chain 1 space / chain 1

In the last chain 3 space: cluster + chain 3 + cluster + chain 1

Ss into the 3rd chain

Round 4:

- Chain 4

- In the chain 1 space: 1 cluster + chain 1

Repeat 3 times: in the chain 3 space *cluster + chain 3 + cluster* / chain 1 / 1 cluster in the chain 1 space / chain 1 / 1 cluster in the chain 1 space / chain 1

- In the last chain 3 space: cluster + chain 3 + cluster

- 2 dc in the same space as the chain 4

- Ss into the 3rd chain

Round 5:

- Chain 3 + 2 dc + chain 1

- In the chain 1 space: cluster + chain 1

- Repeat 3 times: in the chain 3 space *cluster + chain 3 + cluster* / chain 1 / 1 cluster in the chain 1 space / chain 1 / 1 cluster in the chain 1 space / chain 1 / 1 cluster in the chain 1 space / chain 1

- In the last chain 3 space: cluster + chain 3 + cluster

- In the last chain 1 space: cluster + chain 1
